About
Honest Design Review is about reading rooms before changing them. We cover the decisions that shape interior spaces: how furniture fits, how light falls, what colour does and how materials meet daily use. Our readers may be furnishing a first room, reworking a familiar home or simply curious about why an interior feels the way it does.
Rooms, not shopping lists
We look for options that begin with what a room already contains. Sometimes a clearer layout, a different use for an object or a small adjustment to a familiar arrangement is worth considering before a purchase. When buying is part of the question, we explain the choice rather than treating newness as the answer.
What we cover
Our subjects include room layouts, furniture, colour, lighting and materials. We explain design ideas in plain language, compare alternatives where useful and distinguish personal taste from the practical demands of a space. We favour subjects readers can explore thoughtfully without specialist tools or risky work.
A considered point of view
Honest Design Review values clarity, restraint and resourcefulness. We do not assume that every room needs a makeover or that one style suits everyone. Our aim is to give readers a useful way to notice what is working, what is not and which choices might fit their own rooms.
Design should start with looking closely.
We begin with the room, its routines and what is already on hand. A considered change need not start with a shopping list.
